Aside from saving money and being healthier, here are 4 alternative reasons to learn how to cook!

  1. You can take care of yourself

The classic story of a college student living off of ramen noodles is something many people experience. Learning to cook will allow you to be more self sufficient and independent of your parent or spouse to cook for you all the time.

2. No limit on portions

This benefit is great for those who eat a lot. Want extra protein? Have at it. The days of eyeing those chipotle scoops are over. You can eat to your fill with no regrets.

3. Stress Relief / Fun!

Studies have shown that doing something with your hands that doesn’t require brain power is great for relieving stress. After a long day of work or school, chopping up some meat or vegetables or stirring a rich broth can be very therapeutic.

It’s also actually really fun! Experimenting in the kitchen and improving your cooking skills may become your next favorite hobby.

4. It’s an elite way of expressing love

Sometimes doing something for someone you love can bring you a lot of fulfillment. Whether it’s your kids, spouse, parents, or friends; carefully and thoughtfully crafting a delicious meal and watching them enjoy it is an amazing feeling.

Final Thoughts

Some people think cooking isn’t for them.

I only started learning about 3 years ago.

My biggest suggestion for a new beginner is to just start. Find a recipe of a dish you like, buy the required ingredients from the grocery store, and try to follow the instructions. It might not turn out that good, but it will teach you a lot. From there, just keep trying and eventually you’ll be a pro home cook!
