Why I Stopped Listening to Music

Personally, I spend a lot of time within my head.

Reflecting, ruminating, planning, dreaming, and just plain old thinking.

I have never been a big music listener.

Hopped on the latest Pop trends in middle school.

Listened to Rap in high school.

Kept up with Hip Hop trends in College.

I’ve noticed that when I am listening to music, the lyrics are always playing in my head. And there’s no way to get it out once it’s in.

When lyrics are stuck in my head, they interrupt my thoughts. Like the police pounding on my door and I have no choice but to let them in.

They pounce when I am least suspecting it. When I’m getting into bed at night. When I’m trying to complete an assignment.

I value a clear headspace. It’s what allows me to focus on my goals and plan what I need to do.

At the end of the day, it’s why I quit listening to music and don’t think I’ll be going back.

Well, classical doesn’t seem to be too bad.
